WiFič VEN! Heads are about to open!
Discovering, exploring. That's what WiFič VEN! is about. And this year more than ever. We're building on previous editions with a unique mix of music with something to say, street circus, exhibitions, theatre and performances in unusual settings, conversations with Lucie Výborná, and a thoroughly “grown-up” programme for kids. For the eighth edition, we've sharpened our curatorial eye even further. We've invited people who aren't afraid to invite you into their own world. Into their heads.
To show how we think about and work with space. How we design products and tackle projects. To create a unique atmosphere and inspire one another. These are the principles WiFič VEN! stands on. For two days, the industrial campus turns into one big stage for everyone who loves to discover. So what's on offer this year?
Conversations with Lucie Výborná
A mainstay of public broadcasting — and of WiFič VEN! too — Lucie Výborná has been with us since the very first edition. This year she'll delve into the stories of journalist Nora Fridrichová, social architect Kateřina Šedá, Polish writer Mariusz Szczygieł, mountaineer and doctor Matěj Bernát, economist Tomáš Sedláček, and literary historian and theologian Martin C. Putna. And that's not all — more names are still in the works.
Music worth listening to
A distinctive musical voice and lyrics with substance. That's the thread connecting the Slovak hip-hop group Modré hory and the music projects Alois Göbel and Člověk krve. Add to that the sixteen-piece big band Cotatcha Orchestra, and legendary acts Dukla, Dunaj and Puding pani Elvisovej. You can also catch someone who doesn't much like performing — among this year's other WiFič VEN! acts, the avatar Nivva will make an appearance too…
New circus and physical theatre
These genres have belonged at WiFič VEN! for several years now. This year, for instance, Losers Cirque Company is coming — a theatre company of actors, acrobats and mimes performing The Losers. For direct contact with the audience, there's a performance by Move Ostrava. We'll also have Michal Heriban with his physical theatre, plus unconventionally staged shows not just for children — Horácké divadlo Jihlava will take care of that with two productions.
Playing with space, exhibitions and interventions
We were the first to offer a look inside our own heads at WiFič VEN! We open up the whole campus and show how we work and think. Against the backdrop of an industrial setting, we create an inspiring space that connects generations and genres. It always includes several exhibitions and interventions. You can walk the Design Trail, where we use everyday products to showcase the work of iconic Czechoslovak creators. From there, continue on to the Thought Workshop, which presents current principles of design.
Kids? Lower admission, grown-up programme
We take our young visitors at WiFič VEN! completely seriously. Over both days they can visit the Art Reformatory and get a feel for being a maker — sandblasting glass, working with wood and leather, or ceramics, for instance. We've got several theatre performances lined up, a Freelance Clowns show, a dance workshop, and a parkour track. And they definitely won't go hungry either…
