FEST DoToho! is heading to Design Field. And it's no coincidence

The most practical festival for owners of small and start-up businesses. That's FEST DoToho! This time, organisers have chosen Design Field as the venue. Dozens of experts will meet hundreds of entrepreneurs in Bílovice on 11 June.

The most hands-on festival for owners of small and start-up businesses. That's FEST DoToho! This time, the organisers have chosen Design Field as the venue. On 11 June, dozens of experts will meet hundreds of entrepreneurs in Bílovice.

"We're a platform where leaders of Czech business meet bold owners of small companies, so they can grow together and change the rules of the game. In Bílovice, this will be our biggest event yet," promise the organisers, who have already held four gatherings over the past two years.

Our role isn't just to provide the space, though. Among those sharing their experience of successes – and plenty of dead ends – will be Radek Hegmon, David Zezula and Richard Vodička.

Radek Hegmon, founder of Egoé and Design Field

Designing and winning a competition? That's only the start of the journey, not the destination. The destination is a functional product out in public space. With that in mind, designer Radek Hegmon gradually built a holding bringing together studios, engineers and several manufacturing companies – today's Egoé. His portfolio includes complete ranges of street furniture, outdoor furniture, camper-van fit-outs, skis and the Ulita micro-houses.

David Zezula, art director of Egoé and Design Field

Communication isn't just about the product – the setting and the situation matter just as much. And wherever there's even a little room for it, add some humour. That's how David Zezula approaches his role. A trained designer, he came back to Egoé by way of Prague agencies. As art director, he teaches every product, from skis to railway stations, to speak clearly and engagingly.

Richard Vodička, curator at Egoé and Design Field

The key is to truly fall for the craft, set your ego aside, and work as a team. That, according to Richard Vodička, is the essence of industrial design – a subject he pursues both at Egoé and through the Design Field platform. He's curator of the exhibition Design Harvest, which maps the current state of product design. He's also deeply involved in teaching and lecturing on design, architecture and public space.
