To highlight their practical and aesthetic value and place them within the context of sustainable construction. That's precisely the ambition behind the travelling exhibition Salon dřevostaveb. After runs in Prague and Bratislava, 39 projects will be on show in Bílovice, near Uherské Hradiště. The exhibition, staged on the Egoé campus, carries the subtitle Dřevostavby na dřevostavbě. It reflects the fact that this is a place where timber buildings are designed, manufactured and put to use. The opening takes place on 19 October.

Every year, the Salon dřevostaveb project brings together the most interesting work in the field – showcasing exceptional projects and demonstrating cutting-edge technologies and their use in architecturally striking buildings. It's a source of inspiration for investors, architects, suppliers, developers and the general public. It opens up questions around the use of eco-friendly materials and a responsible lifestyle through timber buildings for housing, industry and the public sector.

The opening takes place on 19 October 2023 at 17.00; the exhibition will be on show at the Egoé campus, Bílovice 519, until 2 January 2024. More information at www.poledesignu.cz.

Dřevostavby na dřevostavbě
In Prague, the Salon dřevostaveb exhibition was set up on the piazzetta of the National Theatre; in Bratislava, at the Gallery of the Slovak Architects' Society. In Bílovice, the project heads even higher – onto the flat roof of one of the buildings. "It's an attractive space, and there's symbolism in it too. The building, which houses offices, meeting rooms and showrooms, falls into the category of large multifunctional timber structures," says art and architecture historian Dan Merta, who is in charge of exhibition activities at the Egoé campus in Bílovice.

The pick of the crop and a debate around a wooden table
The Dřevostavby na dřevostavbě project also includes accompanying events. Chief among them is an excursion to the best the timber-building world has to offer in the Slovácko and Valašsko regions, aimed at professionals and the general public alike. It's scheduled for 19 October, from 12.00 to 17.00. During this time, participants will get to see the Kloboucká lesní company headquarters in Brumov-Bylnice, the Parish Centre in Lidečko, the lookout tower in Vysoké Pole, and the Ulita cottage and administrative building in Bílovice.

From 17.30, those interested can look forward to an expert debate in Bílovice featuring architect Kamil Mrva, Kloboucká lesní owner Vojta Dorňák, Pavel Horák — architect and managing director of the Prodesi/Domesi studio — and Radek Hegmon, chief designer and owner of Egoé. "In the debate, we also want to open up an important topic that hasn't had much resonance so far – that the road to real sustainability runs through quality. And quality, whether we're talking about materials, design or construction solutions, is certainly not cheap," notes Dan Merta.
