It's high time we tackled real change towards sustainability.
We're not the only ones who feel that way – so does Veronika Pařízková, curator of the exhibition Eco? In it, she presents the results of an in-depth investigation into the real impact of the creation, use and disposal of specific products from Czech companies that proclaim their green credentials. One of these products is our all-wood Štok. In collaboration with the University of Chemistry and Technology, a template was created for assessing individual sustainability aspects of nearly twenty products. And the result? We all still have some catching up to do. Because, as the head of the research team, Prof. Vladimír Kočí, says: "Design has a greater impact on the ecology of products than is usually assumed. When a designer designs a product in an unsuitable way, they bear responsibility for the environmental damage caused."
The exhibition can be seen until 31 July in Prague at Mariánské náměstí. It will then travel, thanks to the Czech Centres network, to many other European cities. From 4 August it will also exist in an online form. It's one of the activities through which our country wants to show, as part of its Presidency of the Council of the EU, that we take sustainability seriously.
