Maximum functionality. Efficient manufacturability. Integration of new features. Appropriate aesthetics. These are the foundations of industrial design focused on competitive products. Form itself is then the overlay that ties everything else together. Examples of good practice will be on show at the industrial exhibition Žně designu. It opens on 29 August in the unique grounds of Pole designu in Bílovice near Uherské Hradiště. The opening will take place as part of the outdoor gathering WiFič VEN!
Žně designu set out to map the current situation in the Czech Republic and raise awareness of the quality of Czech designers and manufacturers. The exhibition has been held on an occasional basis, in 2020 and 2021. All the featured products share one thing in common: design as the result of teamwork between designers, technologists, engineers, and also marketers and salespeople.
"Žně also creates a platform where manufacturers and institutions can meet. Our ambition is to bring the topic of industrial design back to the table. There's no systematic support for its development, it still remains just below the radar of public interest. In our view, that simply doesn't match the potential this field has to offer," explains Richard Vodička, describing the key motivation behind organising Žně designu.
The exhibition will be installed inside Building B and across the outdoor grounds. So what's on show? The standout exhibit will be the Tatra Force III – an upgraded model that has already won a Red Dot Design Award. Fragments of the new tram being developed for Prague. Steering wheels from current Škoda Auto models. The Linet multifunctional hospital bed. Protective equipment, Fiskars garden tools, bent wood furniture from Ton, and smart public lighting…
The exhibition won't only be open for the duration of WiFič VEN! It will remain on show in the Building B gallery until at least the end of 2025.
