An air-cooled 2.5-litre V8. Connoisseurs already know it. The engine from the legendary Tatra 603. If you want to see it in the flesh, stop by Klub 603 at Pole designu. And once you're there, you won't miss the same car's aerodynamic bodywork, on show just a few metres away.
Why so many nods to a car from the fifties? Among other things, it's one of the symbols of Czechoslovak industrial design, bearing the signature of Zdeněk Kovář. You'll find Klub 603 in the same building as the Doba sádrová exhibition.
That show takes you on a trip through the 1940s to 1980s, when the shape of a future product wasn't born through 3D simulation but under the hands of its makers, straight in the material — clay, and later plaster. It was during this very era that the DNA of the Egoé team took shape, at the Zlín studio of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design, where Zdeněk Kovář worked.
With the growing number of events at Pole designu, the idea came up to set up a space for smaller club events — talks, lectures or concerts — and the name was clear from the start. The club had its debut in April, courtesy of the outfit Mutanti hledaj východisko. In July we'll be screening a film there. And it'll face its true stress test at WiFič VEN!
