The bunkers children build in nature or in the garden are a clear illustration of these only seemingly contradictory urges. Four sticks stuck into the ground give order to an open space. They impose a limitation on a person which, paradoxically, encourages creativity. That's the concept behind the pared-to-the-bone cubes that form the basic unit of our modular system, Leva.
At present, we've developed Leva into three basic functions: PUBLIC, OFFICE and HOME.
In this particular private garden, the Leva system was part of the concept for the whole building and plot from the very start. It shows that minimalist living can bring unexpected space for creativity and emotion. The simple cubic house was designed and built so as to avoid needing planning permission, which is what determined its 5x5 m footprint. The small size of the house, however, is offset by the structure of five interconnected Leva cubes, which follow the boundary of the plot on one side. The modular system created a fully-fledged alternative living space equipped with functions such as a kitchen, dining area, playroom and family daybed. For most of the year it offers its residents and visitors a unique experience of living outdoors with all the comfort we usually associate with an interior. The work of a designer who, throughout his life, never lost his dream of a proper bunker.
