For decades, picnic sets have kept the same established shape: a table joined to benches. Their trademark is a side silhouette resembling the letter A. Encoded within it are the emotions tied to resting outdoors, long conversations and simply stopping for a while. But alongside that pleasant side comes one complication – climbing in over knee-high end supports is an experience best left unrepeated.
Egoé's designers, who have roofed platforms at dozens of railway stations and bring years of experience developing street furniture, decided to keep the basic silhouette but change the construction. They moved the load-bearing part to the centre, doing away entirely with the side braces. A simple principle – but one that made a huge difference to comfort. One step to the side and you're firmly seated. And since it's all so easy, you'll even have time to appreciate another benefit: a light, airy look.
