Mutanti and Doba sádrová. We've opened Klub 603 and an exhibition about the DNA of Egoé

A cult band that, in searching for its own path, brushed up against hip-hop, rap, electro and who knows what else. On top of that, seemingly absurd lyrics. The outfit, formed by rapper Jan Vejražka and musician Jiří Konvalinka, launched Klub 603. Together with a hundred visitors who completely filled the new space at Design Field.

Concerts belong at Design Field. Whether as part of WiFič VEN! or the Zvykejte si series. But they've always taken place in improvised spaces – in the production hall, at the camp, or in the courtyards. The launch of Klub 603 is a breakthrough. Thanks to it, we can give the programming of Design Field free rein. Concerts, but also talks and discussions, can now be held any time…

And why Klub 603? It's the number denoting one of the legendary models from the Tatra car manufacturer. The work of designer Zdeněk Kovář. You can learn more about him, his predecessors and successors, in the very same building. At the permanent exhibition Doba sádrová.

This was an era when form wasn't born on a screen, but directly in the material. The blueprint for a product's future proportions was first shaped in a neutral white plaster model – under the hands of sculptors, or those who learned from them. This is exactly where Egoé's designers went in search of the DNA of their own design approach. They dated this body of findings from the 1940s to the early 1990s. And they named it Doba sádrová.

The exhibition is retrospective, tracing back to the early nineties. "By that time the fundamental consequences of the social changes were already showing, while new technologies were arriving. Drafting tools, spatulas and moulds were put aside. Instead, computers with 3D software were switched on, and printers powered up," says Radek Hegmon, author of the exhibition concept and chief designer at Egoé.
